Studio tour of Lead Graffiti. FREE.

History buffs, students, writers, anarchists, teachers, designers, artists, and kids will enjoy a free tour of our modern working historical letterpress studio. See and hear the clanking & clacking of our platen & cylinder presses, paper cutters & board shears, paper drill & perforator, hot metal linecaster, and other antique printing production marvels. We'll share our love of typography and show favorite examples of classical and contemporary creative items, including colorful posters, fine press books, wedding invitations, and commercial work. See samples from our workshops where people ages 8 and better have put their hands and heads to work via letterpress. There's plenty of eureka moments and ahas!  to share

.

RESERVE A SPACE FOR YOUR TOUR HERE. Remember, it is free. Bring questions, your camera, a friend, and boost the creative part of your brain a bit.

We are happy to schedule a free tour for any group or organizations of 6 to 18 people at your conveniences. The tour can also be tailored to cover your specific topics of interest. To discuss options, email Ray Nichols.

Look at our workshop and events calendar.  Suggest a date (maybe 2 just in case).  Suggest a time. Late afternoons (after 3:30) and evenings are typically better when the parking lot is more open if you expect a lot of cars. Define your group and its interest for us and we’ll try to target the discussion.

Skype talk to the University of Alabama in Huntsville

Lead Graffiti will be doing a Skype talk to Sonja Rossow's letterpress class at the The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Sonja's class is going to be doing a project based on dynamic type, and Sonja thought our 5-year, 115 broadsides, Tour de Lead Graffiti project would be a super project to get the juices flowing.

The talk will be similar to the one we gave at the Hamilton Wood Type Museum's Wayzgoose in Two Rivers, Wisconsin during November 2017.

Oak Knoll Fest XX pre-event tour & H.N. Werkman workshop at Lead Graffiti

Limited to 18 registrants who will be at Oak Knoll Fest XX. Free.

As part of Oak Knoll Fest XX and to be able to contribute to the incredible legacy that has been Oak Knoll Books, we are offering a free studio tour of Lead Graffiti, listen to a few stories about their favorite projects, along with a sampling of their favorite personal work and work from others. Tour will run from 60 - 90 minutes depending on the discussion.

Dress comfortably and remember that it is a print shop.

After the tour, we will run one of our H.N. Werkman workshops. If you don’t know about the workshop, click here. Be sure to look at the examples from previous workshops near the bottom of the page.

A couple of points about this letterpress workshop is that it doesn’t use any form of lockup and you print UPSIDE DOWN.

We will also give you the chance to print your copy of a 36-line Gutenberg Bible page hand composed in MOVABLE type.

Did we mention it was free thanks to Oak Knoll Books?

Lead Graffiti will have a table at Oak Knoll Fest. Stop by and look at our wares.

Our address is 120A Sandy Drive, Newark, Delaware. 17 miles from Oak Knoll Books and typically takes about 25 minutes to drive. Cell phone number if 302.547.6930 if you have trouble finding us.

With the workshops scheduled for early on a weekday, you will probably have to park along Sandy Drive. The parking lot will clear out just after 3:00.

GOT KIDS?

LEAD GRAFFITI WILL BE at the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library to help stimulate some playful experimentation with typographic shapes while working with letterpress printing.

Terrific Tuesdays: Art Rules!
Every Tuesday in July and August, 10:00 am–3:00 pm
Hands-on crafts and games inspired by various aspects of the museum, garden, and library teach kids about color, line, form, and the other elements of art while special guests highlight skills and trades from past and present. New activities and guests each week. Members and children under 2 free. Nonmembers: $5 per child and one adult; additional adults $15.  Please note that Terrific Tuesdays is reserved for Winterthur members or paying guests. American Horticultural Society, North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) and Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums (ROAM) is not available on these program days.
