“Opposites”

Trees will be the same-sized book as Opposites (shown above). While I think we are expecting that we will generally be using Somerset 300gsm Textured White as the general stock of the book, you may need to consider a different stock.

Email Ray to commit to either doing or not doing).

UCBA “TREES” cooperative book update 6/2/25

PARTICIPANTS :  The following list names the members who have committed to the TREES book project. If your name is missing, or if you have changed your mind about participating, let me know ASAP so we can alert the rest of the group about any page quantity changes. Participants include :

Caroline Brown, Gilda Jennings, Teresa Coons, Deb Mackie, Maggie Creshkoff, Carol Maurer, Jill Cypher, Rebecca Melvin, Gilda Jennings, Ray Nichols, Anne Hessel, Michelle Tilford, and Kim & Maribeth Hoelmer (team)

NUMBER OF COPIES : For UCBA members taking part in the TREES group cooperative book, each of you will be responsible for producing a total of 16 copies of your 2-page spread. As of June 2, there are 13 people committed to the project. In addition to making 1 spread for each of the 13 participants, you will also make the following additional copies: 1 for the Library of Congress, 1 for UofD Special Collections, and 1 copy to be framed for gallery exhibits (TBA). NOTE : Depending on your process, 16 copies can require a considerable amount of effort to produce. Image variation from copy to copy is expected, as long as craftsmanship is maintained. If you have questions or want guidance about production options, please feel free to ask Ray or Jill at Lead Graffiti.

PAPER : Lead Graffiti is ordering Somerset paper this week and will advise you of the cost per spread (cut to working size). You may purchase extra spreads as desired for practice, etc. Free samples are available at Lead Graffiti now upon request.

OTHER : Regarding the next UCBA monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 18, Jenny Davies-Reazor has had to postpone her demo and hands-on of “Image Transfer” processes.  If someone else would like to step in with an alternate demo or show-and-tell, please advise me via text or email by next Monday, June 9. As always, Lead Graffiti can help with space, tools, and materials if needed.

Ray suggested an H.N. Werkman letterpress workshop. We did this workshop on the final day of our exhibition at the Frederick Book Arts Center and it had some amazing results. We’ll post several of the photos on the UCBA website.
