Printed in March 2022, this broadside was conceived in response to several requests for letterpress printers to publish a “NO WAR” poster. We wanted to make an extra effort in support of Ukraine and, at the same time, add a new experience to our interest in experimental letterpress.
The poster is printed ENTIRELY from hand-rolled, hand-set metal type.
The heading and credit line hand-rolled in warm red and grey made up run 1. Run 2 was the first three lines of the main text printed in black. Lines 1 & 3 were set aside. Line 2 was as it stood as line 4 and reprinted WITHOUT reinking, so the visual tone is a dark grey. Then the last of the 4 sentences in the line was pulled out and moved to become the first sentence of line 5 and reprinted again without reinking. This step was repeated an additional 12 times until the type ran off the bottom of the broadside. It took roughly 45 minutes to print each poster.

A statistic : As the entire poster is done at one time, we could just print until we got the 20 posters we thought we needed. We ruined 22 in the process. One of those was on the LAST line of the poster when I forgot to move the line down and overprinted the next to last line.
